Presentation of the incubator labs at PAAT 2021

The KEEN platform was represented with several contributions at the annual meeting of the ProcessNet Subject Division Process and Plant Engineering. One highlight was the plenary talk with the title "Incubator labs for artificial intelligence applications in the process industry". Valentin Khaydarov and Leon Urbas (TU Dresden), Michael Bortz (Fraunhofer ITWM) and Norbert Kockmann (TU Dortmund University) introduced the role, mission and business ideas of the three AI incubator labs.

The objective of the incubator labs is to prolong the KEEN results after the public funding phase. Not only the exploitation of the results for industrial applications plays a role here, but also the knowledge transfer in academic teaching and higher education, the integration of further partners and the initialization of future R&D projects.

In the sessions "Construction", "Sensors" and "Data/ML/KI", current project results of the following use cases were demonstrated:

  1. Smart, artificial intelligence-based synthesis of Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), J.Oeing¹, W. Welscher2, N. Kockmann¹;¹TU Dortmund, AG ApparateDesign, Dortmund, 2X-Visual Technologies GmbH, Berlin
  2. Development of a smart sensor for extraction column control, L. Neuendorf¹; P. Kolloch¹; F. Baygi¹; N. Kockmann¹; ¹ TU Dortmund
  3. Datengenerierung für den Einsatz von Surrogatmodellen zur Approximation von thermodynamischen Gleichgewichten; J. Winz¹; S. Engell¹; ¹ TU Dortmund

In addition, there was a poster contribution in the field of "Digital technologies in plant engineering and plant operation":

Towards an AI-improved soft sensor for the separation efficiency of a packed column, J. Schöneberger¹; B. Aker¹; A. Fricke¹; C. Hiller²; V. Khaydarov³; ¹ Capital Gain Consultants, Berlin; ² Evonik Operations GmbH, Marl; ³ TU Dresden
